Michael Anthony Corey, 53, passed away January 17th at his home.
Michael earned a Ph.D. in philosophy of science and religion from The Union Institute, a Ph.D. in the psychology of religion from Columbia Pacific University, and an M.A. in philosophy of religion and theology from Claremont Graduate School.
Michael was a gifted musician, a prolific writer, and a brilliant researcher in human physiology, theology and cosmology. He was a guest on national radio and television programs, appearing on such shows as Phil Donahue, George Noory, and most recently as a frequent guest of Fr. Ron Lengwin’s nationally broadcast radio show, “Amplify”, from KDKA in Pittsburgh. Mike also had his own weekly Internet radio show, attracting callers and listeners from every corner of the globe.
Mike was the author of many renowned books exploring the nature of God and humanity’s place within the Universe, which led to world-wide lecture and debate tours to universities and conferences in many countries.
His published works include The God Hypothesis: Discovering Design in a Just-Right Goldilocks Universe; Evolution and the Problem of Natural Evil; God and the New Cosmology; Back to Darwin: The Scientific Case for Deistic Evolution; and Job, Jonah, and the Unconscious: A Psychological Interpretation of Evil and Spiritual Growth in the Old Testament, among others.
Mike was extremely proud of his musical accomplishments. In his youth, he performed as a guitarist around the Charleston area, and was the featured guitarist on studio recordings in later years. Music was his first love, and one of his greatest joys came from the fact that he bought his Godson his first two instruments, and was an inspiration in his becoming a music student and acclaimed bass player in Chicago. Mike often said his greatest dream was to again play guitar on stage, but this time with his Godson playing bass.
Mike was the “go to” guy when anyone had a medical question or health concern. He possessed an unparalleled understanding of the human body, and had a unique talent of making complex physiological systems easily understandable.
Mike’s generosity and selflessness were legendary, as were his charming ability to make everyone feel important and good about themselves, his endless joy, and his infectious laugh. Mike was directly responsible for literally saving the life of several people of whom we know, and probably more we don’t.
Michael’s loss will leave a gaping void in the lives of his friends and family. He will be sorely missed, but lovingly remembered for a long, long time to come.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael Corey, Sr.
Michael is survived by his mother, Jeanette Corey, brothers John and Daniel, companion Nancy Powell, and a large and loving extended family.

Michael and I corresponded by email over several months although I can't remember the year. But we argued - in a very courteous way - over God's existence. Much of our debate centred on the so-called "Goldilocks" theory where an argument for God lies in the unlikeliness of the conditions that support our own existence. Michael was convinced by this argument where I am not and we debated to a stalemate. It was a pleasure indeed to have had several

Much of our debate centred on the so-called "Goldilocks" theory where an argument for God lies in the unlikeliness of the conditions that support our own existence. Michael was convinced by this argument where I am not and we debated to a stalemate. It was a pleasure indeed to have had several prolonged discussions with Michael, a great antagonist and true gentleman. I often think of him and still mull over many of the points he scored during our debate. Though we never personally met, I so wish we had, and I shall remember Michael with fondness, affection and respect for the rest of my life.

My experience with Michael was one that in hindsight was understated in that I knew he was extremely smart; yet, his brilliance evaded me because he was humble. I was given one or two of his books about 20 plus years ago and endeavored to read his information but didn't complete his works - still haven't. Anyway, I came across one of his books recently and in heartfelt remembrance merely opened it to several passages and was mind-blown by his in-depth research and structure. For example, Michael wrote: "It is hard to see how any hypothetical manipulation of the fundamental constants would produce a better (italic) world ("better" in terms of an increased capacity to produce life). To the contrary, every attempted mathematical manipulation of the various constants has invariable produced a far worse (italic) world, or no world at all. It would appear, then, that as far as the values of the physical constants themselves are concerned, our world does in fact appear to be one of the best possible." (GOD AND THE NEW COSMOLOGY, THE ANTHROPIC DESIGN ARGUMENT, pages 197-98, M.A. COREY. 1993.) Schools, educators and avid readers would be enriched by his authorship. Many other segments of this book even touch on matters that could be discussed regarding even 'global warming'. God bless his family and friends.

Posted by: Bert Oct 22, 2013I still can't breath when I think of you. My eyes still fill up with tears when I hear your name. Every special occasion I have to bite my lip because the emotional pain actually feels physical. You were the ONLY father I ever knew and I miss you. You weren't my biological dad but that's why it was more special that you Chose to raise me. I love you forever and always and I wish you didn't slip away.
Posted by: Bert May 16, 2013Michael, I just learned of this and I am truly heartbroken. I remember our very 1st conversation, you said you made a promise to yourself that you would say at least one nice thing to everyone you meet and you liked my voice and sense of humor. We became very dear friends and confidents after that and through the following years... you know more about me than probably anyone. I always enjoyed the rare occasions that we were able to

I remember our very 1st conversation, you said you made a promise to yourself that you would say at least one nice thing to everyone you meet and you liked my voice and sense of humor. We became very dear friends and confidents after that and through the following years... you know more about me than probably anyone. I always enjoyed the rare occasions that we were able to share a dinner and I will always miss our hours long conversations that were filled with so much laughter. You taught me a lot in this life.. and I will miss you terribly. Rest in Peace and until we meet again my dear dear sweet friend. I love you.
